...Part 2

- The War.Although I am a self-proclaimed
civics geek,I am horrible with dates
and sometimes have issues with
chronological order,I blame it on being
a random-abstract thinker,so I Thank K
for being there to keep you on track as
well.As for seeing it from the other
side,by the time I read and saw GwtW
I had already done research on a few
Wars/Battles,so it was not hard for
me to step outside our cozy little
corner here in the Northeast,Maine btw.

- Her relationship with Ashley.In today's
society would be out and out volatile! At the beginning of the story Scarlett is 16.
Ashley is a damn pedophile. So never mind the Hamilton Cousins getting married and restraining orders,he would be on the sex offenders registry. And yes Melanie is a formidable lady with amazing tolerance. So in my mind, yes Ashley was more than happy to court a young impressionable lady in the throws of hormonal overload. The whole scene where she throws a fit is valid, because in fact he tells her "Scarlett you know how I feel/ I love you, But marrying Melanie is what is expected."
Throw popcorn if want,in fact I encourage it, but please consider why before you do,They are both at fault for acting on impulse, but that my dear is human nature.Again Melanie is a fine woman, but it wasn't true love,it was true understanding, and social advancement for Hamilton Family after the scandal of "the white trash Slattery girl".But after all Doesn't Melanie owe her some respect for saving her and the baby?

- Relationship w/ Rhett. Equally as unhealthy.
But this was built on passion.Yes,Rhett could have been "the one".After the Birth of Bonnie, she honestly tried to be kinder to Rhett, but he was a drunk gambler, who's most favored acquaintance is the woman who runs the local cat house. He was hardly ever home, and she tells Rhett she doesn't want Bonnie jumping her horse, but Rhett pushes the subject aside and she is left blaming Rhett for Bonnie's death.I assure he was no peach to live with either. Also understand Scarlett married out of necessity, not love. She had eyes for Ashley and Ashley only.It was where she felt her heart belonged. But society was not going to allow for that. She gave up.She was not going to give her heart to someone she did not deem worthy, again I ask, would you?The scene on the stairs was supposed to hurt, coming from someone who has had a similar situation,I would not want the world to see me at that moment.Honesty hurts,I think as much as we want/expect it from those we surround ourselves with,we forget how hard it is to hear, especially when it really counts.

I'm glad that you enjoyed it despite your negative feelings. It allows me to see you as open-minded.Anything that inspires you to feel passionately is worth the time it took.Whether those are feelings are anger or love, they drive passion, passion leads to inspiration.Once inspiration has a hold on its designer it can become anything.Scarlett did not walk away empty handed,in fact just the opposite. She walks away with the knowledge that no matter what the force, she can persevere.I,for one, would like to leave this world knowing I am that strong.Knowing that I took every
challenge like a bull by the horns and faced it
with all that had.Success is nice in the long run, but I need to know I tried and sometimes failed at what was extreme difficulty, rather than to have never taken a risk in interest of not failing. How about you? I do believe that wraps it up,I really look to your response.Morticiahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18136963803557737780noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3241480154595964951.post-91433994598706163372010-04-13T10:42:19.861-07:002010-04-13T10:42:19.861-07:00I don't ever recall meeting a woman who could ...I don't ever recall meeting a woman who could not sympathize with Scarlett on some level. So to me this was jaw dropping.I would love to sit and discuss some of the other classics with you someday,I imagine it would be a lovely difference of opinion. Then you asked for my opinion which is rare, usually I just spout it forth regardless of whether or not anyone wants to hear it.I had to post this in 2 parts as it would not allow me to post it in its entirety. So here it goes.
- your friend who is a die hard fan should have warned of the films length, that was a little unfair.

- Costumes, agreed, this is some of the best costuming I have seen to date.

- Ok,here is where It may get a bit lengthy. Scarlett,I can see why she appears so intolerable, but I think hate may be a strong word. What you see there was not hate, but might be better classified as jealousy.Scarlett was very outgoing and more upbeat than most of the girls around her.I will on the other hand give you the passive-aggressive part.Spoiled is a strong word. Her father worked hard to get where he was,Tara and everything that was a part of it were his pride and joy.Scarlett was only living what she had been taught. That is no fault of own.Flirt? We all are in our own way she was just more forward than most woman of that era,or even now for that matter.Tease kinda goes right there with that.Manipulative, yes a little, but purely out of self preservation, which is where the selfish part rears its ugly head and makes you believe she is just that. The reality being her father has taught her, unbeknown to both of them till much later, how to effectively take care of herself in a time when most woman would failed miserably. This brings me the no redeeming qualities remark. She is a strong, driven woman, long before it was ever expected of woman as a societal change. She was educated, and had an amazing sense of fashion. She was passionate about anything she deemed a worthy cause. So I ask you, what makes her any different from you or me?As I said in my previous post, imho, Vivian Leigh is far from plain, she is the embodiment of Black Irish, and honestly after taking a second look at the picture you have posted here, you bare some of the same features, and you sweetheart are not plain either.

- Greatest love story ever told, perhaps not.
I do believe that that will always be in
contention. Romance is a very personal state of mind. What is romantic to you may seem cliche' to me,and vice-versa.I don't really embrace the concept of crying when something is romantic,I want come to the realization that
my face hurts because my smile is that big!I want my heart to beat out of my chest with excitement. My cheeks should burn from blushing. See my point? It's not always tears and tissues. When my boyfriend finally reveals this grand plan of an engagement I guarantee I will not be crying, rather I will be jumping up and down like a giddy little school girl. That to me will be one of the most romantic tales I ever get to tell.

- Portrayal of woman.Sold.No argument there.
I am currently 5'1",178lbs,no where near
hourglass figure,but regardless I must
confess,I still strive for it.Oh and for
record,It is Aunt Pittypat Hamilton,she
refers to as Aunt Pitty, not Aunt Piggy.
I giggled when I read that,The value of that
mis-statement is clearly priceless.Morticiahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18136963803557737780noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3241480154595964951.post-8089288125113617252010-04-12T12:22:08.930-07:002010-04-12T12:22:08.930-07:00Thank you both for the feedback! Vivian Leigh is far from plain in my personal opinion. But rather than point out the things I disagree with, I have some suggestions. 1. The book is more detailed, and is most certainly worth the read. 2. Look for "Scarlett", Both the film and the novel. In "Scarlett", I think you may find the side of her you were waiting to see in "Gone with the Wind". In the interest sparing you a very, very late night, be prepared, "Scarlett" approaches the 6 hour mark!! Watch it in installments, kinda like mini-series, and I would be willing to bet, it would be worth your while.Morticiahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18136963803557737780noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3241480154595964951.post-77940232436981822132010-04-12T05:32:31.069-07:002010-04-12T05:32:31.069-07:00I always found Gone with the Wind overrated.
